IT Experts Podcast with Ian Luckett

May 30, 2022

Kicking off this loaded episode, Phylip briefly shares about who he is, what he does, and who he helps.

We also quickly chat about how this podcast episode came together from when Phylip and I talked about it during the CompTIA event, and I highlight that the key takeaway from this meaningful episode is to learn how to be a better version of ourselves by learning from others and their experiences, and most importantly, how to react and respond to certain situations in business and in life.

Phylip and I start talking about what gets him up in the morning and why it gets him up in the morning. Phylip highlights a few things about his family and mental health. He shares how much he loves winning and how success does something to him. As Phylip talks about how he came about helping other people to do more by being more, we also talk about the common thing that we are so passionate about which is helping people.

Phylip then shares that event that changed his life and created a 180-degree turn in his life.

Phylip was diagnosed with Stage 3 Tuberculosis and bravely shares his story, of how it happened, how he reacted which is normally tied with the stages of grief, and how he responded to it through the love from his family and everyone who cared about him.

From his story, we talked about the difference between reacting and responding. I also share briefly about myself, my team, and my family. We talk about how even I find myself into overwhelm, and how I also reacted and responded to it.

Between stimulation and response lies a moment called choice.

Phylip talks about how this experience humbled him as a business owner and how he came to realise how important it is to delegate and empower people rather than control them. He learned that it’s possible to have a business that is not about him.

Wrapping up the episode, we talk about being in the right mindset, and that mindset is recognising that you are not alone in the journey. It’s okay to ask for help because even the best athletes and personalities in the world have coaches. We talk about how important it is to get an accountability buddy to really get yourself ready to move forward and make that change.
